Service Disruption Due to Water on Tracks in Tunnel Near pernem

Panaji: Due to heavy rainfall along the Konkan coast over the past few days, water has started flowing onto the tracks from the railway tunnel near Pernem in Goa, causing disruption to the Konkan Railway services. Trains like Mandovi, Tejas, and Jan Shatabdi, scheduled to run today, Wednesday, have been cancelled. Meanwhile, Konkan Railway has arranged for immediate refunds for passengers with tickets for the cancelled trains at booking counters.

Water began flowing into the railway tunnel between Madure and Pedne in the Karwar region of Konkan Railway’s Goa division. This issue was noticed around 2:30 PM on July 9th, after which some trains were initially cancelled. Train operations on this route resumed after receiving a track fitness certificate at 10:13 PM on Tuesday night. However, at around 2:59 AM on July 10th, a significant amount of water began to flow into the Pedne tunnel again, leading Konkan Railway to cancel several trains as a precautionary measure for passenger safety.

Repeat of Last Year

Last year, during the monsoon season, water had also started flowing into the tunnel near Pedne, disrupting railway services. This issue has recurred from July 9th this year. The problem resurfaced early in the morning on July 10th, again causing disruptions
