Central Railway’s Mumbai Division intensifies campaign against irregular travel

  • Earns Rs.7.43 crore as revenue for FY 2023-24 upto 20th January 2024 registering increase of 76.70% over the corresponding period last year

Mumbai : Central Railway’s Mumbai Division conducts intensive ticket checking in Suburban, Mail Express, Passenger and special trains to curb ticketless and irregular travel in order to provide comfortable travel and better services to all bonafide rail users. Senior Officers are closely monitoring the revenue loss due to ticketless travel and such other irregularities.

Different types of checks are regularly conducted to curb irregular travel, which includes Ambush checks, Fortress checks, Intensive checks, Special AC local checks and Mega ticket checking drives.

CR Mumbai Division registered a total of 1.85 lakh cases of irregular travel (including cases of ticketless and irregular tickets and unbooked and irregular booking of luggage.) during the FY 2023-24 upto 20th January 2024. This is 61.65% % more than the figure of 1.14 lakh cases for the corresponding period last year.
This has fetched a revenue of Rs.7.43 crore which is 76.70% more that the figure of Rs.4.20 crore for the corresponding period last year.

Intensive ticket checking drives in AC locals during the period April-2023 to 20th January 2024 helped detect a total of 33,851 cases as compared to 22,132 cases during the corresponding period last year which is an increase of 52.95%.
The amount earned as revenue is Rs.1.12 crore in 2023-24 as compared to Rs.74.49 lakhs last year which is an increase of 50.60%.

During the period 1st to 20th January 2024, a total of 17,847 cases of ticketless and irregular tickets and unbooked and irregular booking of luggage) were detected and revenue of Rs.59.24 lakhs were collected as penalties. This included 2327 cases of ticketless travel in AC locals and revenue of Rs.7.89 lakhs as penalty

Central Railway appeals to the passengers to travel with proper and valid railway tickets in order to avoid inconvenience and travel with dignity.
