Ratnagiri Beach Tragedy: 17-Year-Old Student From Kolhapur Drowns At Aare Ware Beach, Another Rescued
Ratnagiri : A leisure trip turned into a tragedy when a 17-year-old student from Kolhapur district drowned at the famous Aare Ware beach near Ratnagiri. The deceased has been identified as Atul Raghunath Sutar (17), a resident of Savarde in the Karveer taluka of Kolhapur.
The incident took place while a group of around 40 students from a private coaching class was on a tourism trip to the Konkan region.
From Devotion to Disaster: How the Incident Unfolded
According to local police reports, the student group had travelled from Kolhapur to Ratnagiri for a weekend getaway. After visiting and offering prayers at the famous Ganpatipule Temple, the group headed to the scenic but treacherous Aare Ware beach in the afternoon.
While a few students ventured into the sea to bathe and enjoy the waves, Atul Sutar was unexpectedly caught in a strong undercurrent. Within moments, he was dragged deep into the water and began struggling to stay afloat.
Hearing the frantic screams of the students on the shore, locals and classmates rushed to help. While they managed to pull out another youth, identified as Mayur Vishnu Khade, Atul could not be saved in time and tragically lost his life before medical help could reach him.
Local Police Inform Family Members
The Ratnagiri Police were immediately alerted about the drowning incident. After recovering the body, authorities completed the initial formalities and contacted Atul’s family members in Kolhapur to inform them of the devastating news. A pall of gloom has descended over Savarde village following the sudden demise of the young student.
Safety Warning for Tourists: The Konkan coastline, while beautiful, features several beaches with sudden drop-offs and unpredictable rip currents. Local authorities frequently advise tourists—especially those unfamiliar with the sea—to strictly avoid venturing deep into the water, particularly as seasonal weather patterns begin to change the sea’s behavior.
